Living with PAO
Exercise Rehabilitation For PAO
Recovering with PAO is physically and emotionally challenging, especially for new mums coping with persistent pain and changes to the spine. Personalised, long-term rehabilitation is essential, as each woman’s needs, goals and outcomes will be different.
Rehabilitation typically follows stages:
Fracture healing (6–12 weeks)
Early rehabilitation
Mid-stage progress
Long-term progressive exercise and resistance training for bone strength, physical health and wellbeing
Specialist physiotherapy—ideally with expertise in osteoporosis and postnatal care—is key to a safe, gradual return to movement, exercise, and daily life.
Diet
It is important to maintain a healthy balanced diet, including adequate protein, calcium and vitamin D3.
